Summer Gardens

The Wonderment Of Summer Gardens And The Vibrancy Of Colour

By midsummer, the reward of a full flush garden vibrant with growth reminds us of months of hard work but also a time to slow down. With the garden in full swing, you’ll hear the buzzing of bees, see the duelling dragonflies cruising the skies for insects, and quick darting about hummingbirds looking for their next nectar-sipping blossom. This is gardening in the summer season — a moment to stop and enjoy busy nature at its finest.

On a quiet Saturday, sipping our first morning coffee, watching the sunrise enveloped in the morning’s coolness – offers a moment of reflection. We feel the breeze that we know will quickly warm us as the summer day heats up. But first, we take in the quiet of the garden, resting from the night before. A new day is here. The flowering dogwood and maple trees continue to strengthen their new stems and start their day’s work offering a place of shade. The camellias and rhododendron evergreens that blossomed in spring keep their prominent position, but let the summer flowers perform their magic—the lavenders, the salvias, the summer clematis, the fuchsias and the echinacea flowers that colour the borders. And later, the north shade garden of hostas and Hakone Grass beckons us to keep cool from the hot summer afternoon sun.
